H-N-Me-Asp(OtBu)-OH is an N-methyl aspartic-acid derivative with a free N-methyl amino group and a tert-butyl-protected side-chain carboxyl.
Because the amino group is not temporarily Fmoc- or Boc-protected, this material is especially useful as an intermediate for preparing route-specific N-protected N-methyl Asp derivatives or for controlled solution-phase chemistry.
Product Information
| Product Name | H-N-Me-Asp(OtBu)-OH |
| Catalog No. | AS4176 |
| CAS No. | 197632-85-2 |
| Molecular Formula | C9H17NO4 |
| Molecular Weight | 203.24 g/mol |
| Material / Building Block Type | N-methyl Asp side-chain tert-butyl ester intermediate |
| Primary Applications | N-methyl peptide building-block preparation; backbone-modified peptide SAR; protected Asp intermediate synthesis; medicinal chemistry |
Application Scope in Backbone N-Methylation
N-methyl Asp derivatives are used to tune peptide conformation, hydrogen-bonding patterns and proteolytic behavior. This intermediate supports preparation of the exact N-protected monomer needed for the selected synthesis route.
Protection State and Reactivity
OtBu masks the side-chain carboxyl while the α-carboxyl remains available. The free secondary amine is more sterically hindered than an ordinary primary amino acid and can require more deliberate acylation conditions.
Procurement and QC
Confirm CAS 197632-85-2, C9H17NO4, MW 203.24 g/mol, N-methylation and side-chain OtBu protection. Lot-specific stereochemical identity should be checked before sequence-critical use.
For downstream conversion into a sequence-ready building block, Alan Scientific can support custom peptide and intermediate synthesis.
