H-2-Me-D-Ser-OH is α-methyl-D-serine, a stereodefined serine analog carrying an additional methyl substituent at the α-carbon. The amino, carboxyl, and side-chain hydroxyl groups are all supplied unprotected.
Combining D stereochemistry with α-methyl substitution creates two simultaneous design variables: mirror-image backbone configuration and increased substitution around the α-center. This makes the residue relevant to conformational studies and noncanonical peptide design.

Defined D Stereochemistry
Unlike H-2-Me-DL-Ser-OH, this product is a defined D stereoisomer. That distinction is important in protease-resistance, receptor-recognition, and stereochemical control experiments.
Other stereodefined building blocks can be compared in our D-amino acid collection.
Effect of α-Methyl Substitution
α-Methylation removes the usual α-hydrogen and increases steric demand. In a peptide or peptidomimetic, this can change local conformational preferences and can make coupling more demanding than with standard serine.
The free side-chain hydroxyl provides a functional handle but may need independent protection before incorporation into a controlled peptide synthesis.
Selection Versus the DL Analog
Choose the D material when a single configuration is required. The DL analog may be useful for exploratory chemistry, but it introduces both enantiomers and cannot substitute for a stereochemically defined building block in sequence-specific work.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is H-2-Me-D-Ser-OH racemic?
No. It is the D stereoisomer of α-methylserine.
How is it different from H-2-Me-DL-Ser-OH?
The DL product is racemic; H-2-Me-D-Ser-OH provides one defined stereochemical form.
Is the hydroxyl protected?
No. The serine-like side-chain hydroxyl remains free.
