DESCRIPTION

Avian GLP-1 (7-36) amide is a 30-residue chicken and turkey GLP-1 peptide with a sequence distinct from mammalian GLP-1. It provides a species-matched ligand for studies of avian endocrine signaling, nutrient responses and comparative GLP-1 receptor pharmacology.

The molecule retains the characteristic N-terminal His required for receptor activation but contains several natural substitutions throughout the peptide.

Natural Avian Sequence Variation

Compared with mammalian GLP-1, the avian peptide contains substitutions including Tyr at the position corresponding to mammalian Phe12, Ile in place of Val and additional differences toward the C-terminal region.

These changes make the peptide useful for evolutionary and comparative receptor studies without introducing artificial mutations.

Avian Metabolic Research

Birds differ from mammals in glucose regulation, circulating glucose concentrations and pancreatic endocrine physiology. Species-matched GLP-1 therefore provides a more appropriate molecular tool for avian models than assuming that human GLP-1 reproduces all native signaling properties.

We recommend specifying both ligand species and receptor species when comparing avian and mammalian GLP-1 systems.

Research Applications

Applications include poultry metabolic research, avian GLP-1R studies, nutrient-response experiments and comparative peptide SAR.

Custom species-specific variants can be evaluated through Chemical Peptide Synthesis.
