A Defined β-Endorphin Processing Product

α-Endorphin is not a separate full-length POMC domain. It corresponds to the first 16 residues of β-Endorphin and is therefore particularly useful for studying how C-terminal truncation changes endorphin pharmacology.

From Met-Enkephalin to β-Endorphin

The sequence contains Met-enkephalin at residues 1-5 but lacks the extended C-terminal half of β-Endorphin. This creates a useful intermediate-length ligand for mapping how sequence extension beyond the core opioid motif changes receptor recognition and peptide degradation.

Analytical Considerations

Met5 is susceptible to oxidation. The peptide also contains no cysteine residues or disulfide bonds, so oxidative folding is not part of its intended molecular identity.
