Human Renin Cleavage-Site Context

The sequence spans the human angiotensinogen N-terminal region surrounding the physiologically relevant renin cleavage site.

Renin cleaves between Leu10 and Val11. In this synthetic N-acetylated substrate, cleavage therefore produces an acetylated Angiotensin I-derived N-terminal fragment together with the downstream VIHN fragment.

This distinction matters when cleavage products are analyzed by mass spectrometry or chromatography because the synthetic substrate does not generate chemically unmodified Angiotensin I.

Why Use a 14-Residue Renin Substrate?
