DESCRIPTION

[Pyr5]-Substance P (5-11) is a seven-residue C-terminal Substance P analog with the sequence Pyr-Gln-Phe-Phe-Gly-Leu-Met-NH2. It contains an N-terminal pyroglutamate at the position corresponding to residue 5 of the native peptide.

The peptide provides a compact model for studying the C-terminal region of Substance P while removing the basic N-terminal Arg-Pro-Lys-Pro sequence of the full-length neuropeptide.

A Seven-Residue C-Terminal Substance P Scaffold

The peptide contains one additional residue compared with [Pyr6]-Substance P (6-11). This changes the N-terminal boundary of the fragment while leaving the Phe-Phe-Gly-Leu-Met-NH2 C-terminal region intact.

C-terminal Substance P fragments have been used to examine how different portions of the neuropeptide contribute to receptor activation, neuronal signaling and peptide processing.
