DESCRIPTION

Neurokinin Receptor (393-407), rat is a 15-residue peptide corresponding to the intracellular C-terminal region of the rat neurokinin-1 receptor (NK1R). Its sequence is Lys-Thr-Met-Thr-Glu-Ser-Ser-Ser-Phe-Tyr-Ser-Asn-Met-Leu-Ala.

This peptide is a receptor-derived epitope fragment rather than a tachykinin ligand. It is particularly relevant to antibody development, receptor localization and studies of NK1R trafficking.

An NK1 Receptor Epitope, Not a Tachykinin Agonist

The peptide derives from residues 393-407 of the receptor protein itself. It should therefore be distinguished from Substance P, Neurokinin A and Neurokinin B, which are extracellular tachykinin ligands.

The receptor fragment does not reproduce the seven-transmembrane GPCR architecture and should not be described as a functional NK1 receptor or as an NK1 agonist.

Antibody Generation and Receptor Localization

The NK1R C-terminal peptide was used in classical studies to generate receptor-specific antisera. These antibodies enabled visualization of receptor distribution and trafficking in tissues and transfected cells.

This makes the peptide useful as an immunogen-related antigen, antibody-blocking control or defined epitope in receptor-localization workflows.

Receptor Trafficking Context

After Substance P activates intact NK1R, the receptor can undergo endocytosis and later recycle toward the plasma membrane. The C-terminal receptor region participates in intracellular regulatory processes, but these trafficking events occur in the intact receptor, not in the isolated 15-residue peptide itself.

Analytical Considerations

The sequence contains two methionine residues, so oxidation should be monitored when the peptide is used as a precise antibody-recognition standard.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this peptide an NK1 receptor agonist?

No. It is a peptide fragment derived from the intracellular C-terminal tail of rat NK1R.

How many residues are present?

The correct sequence KTMTESSSFYSNMLA contains 15 residues.
