DESCRIPTION

gp100 (457-466) is a 10-amino acid peptide derived from the melanocyte-associated antigen gp100 (PMEL), a glycoprotein expressed in melanocytes and melanoma cells. This peptide represents a critical antigenic epitope that binds to major histocompatibility complex (MHC) class I molecules, such as HLA-A*02:01, for presentation to cytotoxic T lymphocytes (CTLs). Recognized as a tumor-specific antigen, gp100 (457-466) plays a key role in immunotherapeutic strategies targeting melanoma, including peptide vaccines and adoptive T-cell therapies, by stimulating CTL-mediated destruction of cancer cells. In research, it is used to investigate T-cell activation, optimize antigen presentation, and enhance anti-tumor immune responses. Its significance lies in its ability to serve as a target for harnessing the immune system against melanoma, with ongoing efforts to improve its immunogenicity and clinical efficacy in cancer treatment.
