DESCRIPTION

β-Amyloid (1-40), rat is a 40-amino acid peptide derived from the rat amyloid precursor protein (APP), corresponding to the N-terminal to residue 40 of the β-amyloid (Aβ) sequence. While structurally similar to its human counterpart, the rat Aβ(1-40) exhibits species-specific amino acid differences that influence its biophysical properties, such as aggregation kinetics and interaction with cellular receptors. In rats, Aβ peptides play roles in normal neural function, including synaptic plasticity and neuroinflammation, though rats do not naturally develop amyloid plaques like those seen in Alzheimer’s disease. This peptide is used in research to study interspecies differences in Aβ biology, evaluate the effects of species-specific sequences on aggregation and toxicity, and develop preclinical models for testing anti-amyloid therapies.
