DESCRIPTION

Angiotensin Converting Enzyme Inhibitor (ACE Inhibitor) is a class of pharmacological agents that block the activity of angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE), an enzyme critical for the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system (RAAS). By inhibiting ACE, these compounds prevent the conversion of angiotensin I to the potent vasoconstrictor angiotensin II, reducing vascular tone, aldosterone secretion, and sodium retention, while also increasing levels of the vasodilatory peptide bradykinin (by inhibiting its degradation).
