DESCRIPTION

LL-37, Antimicrobial Peptide, human is a 37-amino acid cationic peptide derived from the proteolytic cleavage of the human cathelicidin precursor protein hCAP-18. As a key component of the innate immune system, it exhibits broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity against bacteria, fungi, and viruses by disrupting microbial membranes and modulating immune responses. Beyond direct microbicidal effects, LL-37 promotes wound healing, angiogenesis, and chemotaxis of immune cells, while balancing pro-inflammatory and anti-inflammatory signaling. It is constitutively expressed in epithelial cells of the skin, airways, and gastrointestinal tract, serving as a first-line defense against pathogens. In research, LL-37 is studied for its role in host defense, tissue repair, and immune disorders such as psoriasis, acne, and infectious diseases. Its dual functions in antimicrobial defense and immune regulation make it a promising candidate for developing novel therapeutics targeting microbial infections and inflammatory conditions.
